Mid Mount versus Rear Mount Quints
A quint combines five functions on one chassis: pump, water tank, hose, ground ladders and an aerial device. When comparing units, start with the role the truck will fill on arrival, the reach you need, its water and hose capacity, and how you plan to staff it.
Mid Mount
Turntable behind the cab, often with a lower travel height. Common on platform quints.
Rear Mount
Turntable at the rear.
Bay height and street access are usually the deciding factors.
75 Foot, 100 Foot and What the Difference Costs You
A 75 foot quint is generally shorter and lighter, and easier to position. A 100 foot quint adds reach, usually with more length and weight. Size the aerial to the buildings you expect to reach, with a realistic setback.
