Walk-around versus Walk-in on a Rescue Pumper
A rescue pumper combines fire attack with rescue equipment storage on one chassis. Compared with a pumper of similar size, it typically gives up some hose bed and tank capacity for compartment space. Compared with a heavy rescue, it gives up interior space and equipment capacity to carry the pump and tank.
Most rescue pumpers are walk-around (non-walk-in): compartments open from outside and there is no interior working space. If you need interior space, you are usually looking at a heavy rescue, listed on squads and rescue bodies.

Compartment Volume
Compare cubic feet of compartment space, not the number of doors.
Tool Mounting
Whether hydraulic tools are mounted and plumbed, or simply carried.
Light Tower
Check generator hours as well as whether the tower raises.
Cascade or Air
Where fitted, check the bottles and last hydro dates.
Power
Whether tools and accessories are hydraulic, electric or PTO driven.
Questions Worth Asking About a Used Rescue Pumper
Ask what equipment stays with the truck. Tools, hard suction, ground ladders and loose equipment are often removed before sale, and photos may predate that. It also helps to know whether the truck ran mainly as an engine or as a rescue.
